Synaptic mechanisms for long-term depression.

چکیده
Neural networks that store information at synapses rely on mechanisms for increasing and decreasing synaptic strengths. In 1973 Bliss and Lramo reported that stimulating the perforant pathway projecting to the hippocam pus with a high ,frequency tetanus resulted in a rapid and persistent elevation. of the synaptic efficacy [ 11. This form of long-term potent&ion (LTP) lasts for many hours in slice preparations of the hippocampus and for many days in vivo. At some synapses in the hippocampus LTP can be induced by stimulating a test input only a.few times if the stimulation is accompanied by strong postsynaptic depolarization [2,3]. An increase in synaptic efficacy under these conditions, as suggested by Hebb [4], is termed hebbian [51. One of the most thoroughly explored uses of the simple hebb rule is in the formation of associations between patterns of neural activity [6]. Modiiications of the simple hebb rule to include long-term depression of synaptic strength can improve the ef53cienc-y and performance of associative recall in neural network models [7,8].

Long-term potentiation (LTP) is a process that certain types of synaptic stimulation lead to a long-lasting enhancement in the strength of synaptic transmission. Studies in recent years indicate the importance of molecular pathways in the development of memory and learning. Tropomyosin receptor kinase B (TrkB) is a member of the neurotrophin receptor tyrosine kinase family, that its ligand is b...

Many physiological events require an accurate timing signal, usually generated by neural networks called central pattern generators (CPGs). On the other hand, properties of neurons and neural networks (e.g. time constants of neurons and weights of network connections) alter with time, resulting in gradual changes in timing of such networks. Recently, a synaptic weight adjustment mechanism has b...

Synaptic plasticity in the central nervous system (CNS) of mammals has been discussed for many years. Several forms of synaptic plasticity of mammal’s CNS have been identified, such as those that occur in long-term potentiation (LTP). Different types of LTP have been observed in distinctive areas of the CNS of mammals. The hippocampus is one of the most important areas in the CNS that pla...
